Re: “Indy's 2018 midterm election endorsements

June 2010, the US State Department allowed permanent gender marker changes to be made with the statement of a physician that the applicant has had appropriate clinical treatment for transition to the new gender. Additionally, all US states allow the gender marker to be changed on a drivers license, the problem is that the requirements vary by state to state. Colorado currently requires a medical authorization form signed by a physician for a gender change to a drivers license, however, sex reassignment surgery is required for a birth certificate change. For many transgender people, this means the genders on their birth certificates will never be updated to reflect who they are because many people do not want, cannot afford, or do not need surgery. [1] Having a drivers license that does not match the birth certificate is a problem not to mention it could lead to discrimination.

To rectify the situation Colorado Rep. Daneya Esgar re-introduced the bill New Birth Certificate to Reflect Gender Change, HB18-1046 which would have been the first Colorado bill directly focused on trans rights bringing Colorado law in line with federal policy for transgender Coloradans who want to update the gender on their birth certificate.

Current HD16 Rep. Larry Liston voted no on HB18-1046 and the bill failed in the Senate Committee on State, Veterans & Military Affairs. Its just wrong to not allow someone to have valid documentation showing who they really are.

For the CSIndy to endorse a candidate to represent HD16 who doesnt fight for all residents in HD16 is a slap in the face. Andrew Smith, candidate for HD16 serves as Treasurer for the Colorado Springs Stonewall Democrats and will vote for inclusionary policies for all HD16 residents instead of voting to continue the discrimination in our state laws.

Rep. Larry Liston received a 0% score in the 2018 LGBTQ legislative scorecard from One Colorado, this score shows Liston continually votes against the LGBTQ in HD16 and should not be endorsed by the CSIndy.…

Re: “Reader: Lamborn should have a town hall for childish liberals, then another for the adults

"This rude woman didn't want to realize that her right stops where ours starts. We have the right to listen to our congressman without interruptions." To do this, go to his YouTube page where you can listen to him constantly without interruption. I wasn't at that town hall to hear what HE had to say, I was there to hear what HIS CONSTITUENTS had to say TO HIM. He needs to listen to US at a town hall, not the other way around! I sat quietly at the town hall, but not out of respect for Lamborn, I sat quietly out of respect for my friend who desperately needed to get his attention to continue to get care for her son. I sat quietly out of respect for the 12 year old girl fighting for climate change. I sat quietly out of respect for the veteran fighting for veteran care. I sat quietly out of respect for the woman with her well researched chart filled with FACTS about how the middle class pays for most of America's healthcare. NEVER for Lamborn.…
