  • Jillian Likness has withdrawn from the HD 18 race.

Citing her "current health condition" without elaborating, Jillian Likness, the GOP nominee in the State House District 18 race has withdrawn, triggering a meeting slated for July 21 of the district's vacancy committee to choose a replacement for the Nov. 6 general election ballot.

The committee is composed of HD18 precinct leaders, bonus members and all other party officials in the district.

"There are a few people showing interest but no official candidate announcements, yet," Cassandra Sebastian, El Paso County GOP executive director, reports via email.

Whoever is selected will face off against Democrat Marc Snyder, former mayor of Manitou Springs. The seat now is held by Rep. Pete Lee, who is seeking the Senate seat held by Michael Merrifield, who isn't running for a second term.
