Re: “The war, on drugs

I only wish this were a new phenomenon. I was a veterans counselor from 1980-85, having come back from a European deployment myself in the mid-70s. Even then, the numbers of "battle fatigue", PTS diagnoses and suicidal veterans was an issue. Fully have my client load at the time had emotional disorders that were never fully dealt with. War is NOT a normal state of being. Why is anyone surprised that these veterans come back with emotional problems, especially when the organizational mentality has been to sweep the issues under the rug? It's been this way for DECADES! Every time an actual working solution gets proposed, it winds up being too expensive, and the expense gets passed down the line to communities, families, and civilian insurance companies. When are we going to wake up and figure out we're killing the very people we send off to defend us?!?
