Re: “Bus to nowhere

This is really really scary for those of us who rely on the bus for transportation. I've been out of work since February as it is and I think part of the reason is my need to ride the bus. I don't own a car, can't afford to own a car (especially with gas prices as they are), and as a result take the bus everywhere but not being able to work on the weekends because the bus doesn't go by my house on those days is severely limiting my ability to live. If they cut most of the night routes, or the expresses (the only way to get up to the North Union/Research Pkwy area) I'm going to be severely limited in where I can even look for a job. I know many many other bus riders who are in the same position as I am. What are we supposed to do to survive in this town??? Most of us are barely getting by as it is and can't afford to move elsewhere even if we want to. I'm not talking about the homeless, mentally challenged, or physically challenged individuals who also rely on the bus system although it is very much a concern for them as well - I'm talking about those of us who are struggling to make a living in this town and not able to quite make it as it is let alone if these changes take place. On the other hand there are also many bus riders who choose to do so not only to save on gas but to be more green. We should have a better bus system not a worse one! As it is I can't get out to Powers or up to Briargate or down to the Broadmoor area easily and certainly not at night. And the night routes are so limited and stop so early retail/restaurant/bar jobs are out. The city should be helping people work and live not making it harder!
