Re: “Updating the rsum

A friend commented about how liberal Colorado seemed to be. It was sad to tell her that Colorado Springs could not yet pretend to be liberal, reasonable, or responsible quite yet. I explained that the city had the best weather in the world, and some of the nicest people in the world, but that it remained a essentially the feifdom of irrational and powerful insiders. I decided to open the online Indy to illustrate. There was the proof of my opinion: the saga of the nutsy Olympics Committee, the Gazette, the depths of Schulteis's disregard for the health of babies in his penchant for punishing immorality, D11's vetting of another in a long line of superintendents, etc., etc. Five years from the Springs, and not much has changed. I'm copying your recent opinion pieces to offer my almost 14-year old granddaughter so she can appreciate what skill goes into writing a short essay. I hope your son, the one who was about 13 or 14 five years ago, is doing well. I had the pleasure of teaching him for a few days while he was in middle school and I was a substitute. I think he takes after his dad, as you hoped to take after yours.

Re: “Expansion: Future on the line

As a military family member, recent former resident of CS, and a person who has followed the Pinon Canyon expansion grief, I am hoping the Army (and Joint Forces) will take care of some of these problems. But I have to look at how woefully behind the VA has been in meeting its obligations. The phrase for CS has to be: "Trust but verify" when it comes to federal funding promises. God bless our noble men and women who serve us. How well do we serve them and their families?
