Re: “Publisher defends Gazette's marijuana opinion dump

As a long time supporter of the editorial section of the Gazette and, quite honestly, a vocal critic of the editorial section of the Indy, I have to say this time, the Indy got it right. I read 3 of the 4 pieces of the "Clearing the Haze" segment. This piece of journalism was an editorial piece masked as a news bit. I will say that I found the parallel's between the tobacco industry lobby (from 50 years ago) and the marijuana industry lobby to be disturbing, but the lack of transparency by the Gazette's leadership is the most troubling aspect of this entire piece. Steever's quotes (above) do not pass the test of journalistic integrity and worse, the notion that Gazette employees couldn't respond to the piece via social media smacks of a dictatorial establishment. As a person who's traveled the country, extolling the virtues of the C.S. Gazette to any who would listen because of it's traditionally fair minded approach to journalism, I'm deeply disappointed by this piece. We'll see if the Gazette prints the other side of the story now. That's what I'll be waiting for. Joe Uveges
