John, Sarah, Barack and Joe

Try as you might, there's no escaping the presidential race these days. And with the first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama happening in about a week, coverage will probably go from stifling to suffocating.

Is Sarah Palin a flash in the pan or a force to be reckoned with? Her popularity will last. It'll spice up the campaign and make us pay attention.

Explain the difference between crowds chanting "O-ba-ma, O-ba-ma!" and crowds chanting "Sar-ah, Sar-ah!" What's interesting about that is that Sarah isn't the one running for president. She's eclipsed McCain.

Will the presidential or VP debate influence voters most? I'm hoping both debates influence the election. The Biden-Palin debate will probably generate more interest because people know so little about Palin.

What would cause you to change your vote between now and Nov. 4? One of the candidates telling me how they'll implement health-care reform and get people's feet back on the ground economically, not just claiming they're going to do it.

Is Palin the real deal? Picking a woman for vice president was a political move by McCain. Her popularity won't hold up over the long haul.

Will the VP or presidential debate sway voters most? The presidential debates. Either Obama or McCain will be the president, not Biden or Palin.

What's the most bogus aspect of this election? Putting the focus on who is not doing what, instead of keeping it on what needs to be done.

Are you worried about possible voter fraud or vote-counting snafus? That needs close watching. I still think that vote-counting in Florida robbed Gore of the election in 2000.

Will Palin's avalanche of attention hold up until November? It'll run its course when she has to be accountable for her views, and the election gets back around to issues instead of celebrity.

Describe the difference between crowds chanting Obama's name and crowds chanting Palin's name. There's no difference. When it was [Obama's] name being chanted, the McCain commercials mocked it, but when crowds started chanting her name, all of a sudden that's OK.

Are you looking forward more to Biden debating Palin or to Obama debating McCain? Probably Biden-Palin. At the end of the day, though, it's Obama or McCain who'll be president.
