Re: “We're the second-worst-dressed city

i could care less about fashion, but, as a friend of Lloyd's, i couldn't agree more with that statement and it made me seriously laugh!!! he rocks the purple!!!

Re: “My Fair Lady

i need free tickets to see my Fair Lady because i live on a very fixed income and would so love to take my guy to see a real live show instead of popcorn and a movie in front of the TV!!

when my kids were young, we would gather all sorts of things, invite their friends and make beautiful (ha!) music!! oatmeal containers and coffee cans with rubberbands strung across, pots and pans of course, castinets (sp) made from soda caps nailed to some wood, various size bottles to blow into, jars set up with water to clank on, some with dried beans and rice to shake, garbage can drums, and cymbals from their lids, and all the sounds we could make with our voices..the kids loved it and so did i! :)

Re: “Update: 'Ride it Out'

yes, i'm truly grateful for Arturo's help (and Adrian's too) in making that happen... but just as importantly to me, i didn't feel faceless or dehumanized to/by him, which was my biggest issue in it all... i'm so very grateful for Arturo's compassionate and understanding ear and his real desire to do his job *well*....again, my sincere thank you to both Adrian and Arturo Serrano....

Re: “'Ride it out'

i understand everyone's points in this, but to me, some comments are taking the article out of context regarding *my* individual details in this... and, i don't think that the majority of the public is too numb to learn to pay attention to what's failing, through reading and hearing about stories like my own that need to be told in order for that to happen...

if you read my direct quotes, it's clear i agree that it's all broken, and it's not more money it needs to fix it... and that i wanted to help make people aware of that fact...

that's my intent in wanting to tell my story...not to be seen as a "victim" of any kind, but as an advocate for change, from the ground up...

and to explain more of my situation: because of my specific disabilities, i am unable to work at any type of desk job, including call centers, due to the clot and surgery on my leg last year... i can not sit or stand for any longer than an hour at a time without it creating a loss of circulation and the pain that comes with that...the breathing problems are because of congestive heart failure..between them, i'm very limited on what i can physically do...

i have worked my whole life prior to 3 years ago, and even then only applied for the food assistance last year, because getting approved for Disability is a long process, so that until i am approved, it helps to pay for my food, which is a huge help to me while i try and find my ways to becoming independent again....

Re: “'Ride it out'

thank you so very much Adrian and The Independent, for helping me share my story...my experiences since becoming disabled go so much deeper than just my food assistance difficulties and i hope we all want to continue to educate ourselves in the ways these programs are failing, despite the amount of taxes people are paying in order for it to successfully reach those in need.

in love and light,
chelle tomasik
