Re: “Jaywalking case exposes law enforcement embedded in far-left group

I am of the opinion that Colorado Springs is brimming with lunatics. "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right." Decent people may need to relocate. Between the Libertarian "Christian" fundie Tea Party crowd and now the BernieSteins the idiocy is cranked to overkill most of the time. Add Trump as dear leader and it's a complete creep show. Then again, normal people warned you long ago where this was heading.

Re: “Jaywalking case exposes law enforcement embedded in far-left group

Eric Verlo is a severely disturbed individual. Some one should probably point that out before describing him as "a seasoned activist.": See this article regarding Verlo's sympathy at trial for deranged Sovereign Citizens: http://www.westword.com/news/judge-in-sove…

You might also like to take a look at his blog "Not My Tribe" (pure insanity - "anarchism"):

This would be why normal citizens rarely participate. Maybe stop handing outright lunatics the microphone. NAACP might like to keep its distance from extremists (they clearly aren't helping). And no, you should NOT go around punching Nazis no matter how tempting it may be. Those who deal with countering hate groups offer sound advice - peaceful and separate counter-protests. See Boston's response: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-n…

Pro Tip: cooperate with police to keep rallies peaceful - stop antagonizing law enforcement.

Re: “One last shot at a downtown stadium

It looks to me, Ralph, that taxpayer dollars are being well-spent on infrastructure at the moment, particularly in downtown Colorado Springs. Suddenly we 're seeing our shabby downtown getting a much-needed facelift. If developers want to kick in funds to pay for a sports stadium elsewhere in the city (on the North Side for instance) let them have at it. But to spend taxpayer money on an ugly stadium that will benefit who exactly? I think Suthers made a wise choice in allocating funds to road repairs and other much-needed public works that benefit us all. The downtown area is starting to shape up and we like it.

Re: “Reader: Free speech is for everyone except Christians

This is the insipid garbage CSIndy insists on publishing? And you wonder why this country is screwed.

CSIndy: "We don't want to get into the details." Get into the details for Pete's sake and explain it to the pubic! That is your entire reason for being!

Re: “Time for voters to step up, take responsibility and be smart

Mr. Curious above pretty much tells us all we need to know:

"these are government schools" (fairly dripping with disdain)

Koch-Backed "conservative" only interest in public education is to eradicate it in favor of homeschooling or private religious schools for which they require taxpayers to foot the bill. They actually signed a pledge to that effect (signed by libertarians and some of the most whacked out 'Christian' fundamentalist organizations conceived in modern times): http://www.schoolandstate.org/proclamation… (including libertarian Ron Paul):

"Ron Paul's home school curriculum launched by [Christian] Reconstructionist Gary North and neo-Confederate Thomas Woods":
http://www.talk2action.org/story/2013/4/9/…

Then we have the usual "conservative" disdain for pensions (anybody's pensions, not just teachers, up to and including Social Security and military pensions) and the eradication thereof. Here, read some Koch-bought "conservative model legislation:
http://www.alecexposed.org/wiki/Worker_Rig…

And of course the Libertarian billionaire-backed union-busting adventures, because teachers aren't quite living under the Bijou bridge... yet. Certainly, we'll need to rectify that situation as those teachers are livin' it up like kings and queens.

We'll let Rachel Tabachnick writing at K-12 News Network explain: "Voucher Advocate Betsy DeVos, Right-Wing Think Tanks Behind Koch-Style Attack on PA Public Schools (Section 1)" (this is going on state-by-state, not just in Colorado):

Re: “Time for voters to step up, take responsibility and be smart

I so love all the conservatives in this thread sharing their "concern" for education and the need for "reform," like perhaps creating a national embarrassment like the Koch-endorsed incident at Jeffco?:

EdWeek: "Policymakers push back in four states
By Liana Heitin

Concerns about an overhaul to the Advanced Placement U.S. History curriculum framework have been spreading through a growing number of states over the last few months, with critics saying it emphasizes negative aspects of the nation's history and downplays "American exceptionalism."

Policymakers in Colorado, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas have pushed back on the new framework, which outlines the concepts and skills students need for a college-level history course. The Republican National Committee also condemned the guidelines last summer, calling them 'radically revisionist.'"
http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2015/03/…

Thanks "conservatives," but we don't exactly need more kids being exposed to extremist whacked-out revisions to the school curriculum. And for those so worried about "test scores," I'd be willing to bet the students at least have a rudimentary understanding of science - ya know what I mean?

Ahem: Politico: "Taxpayers in 14 states will bankroll nearly $1 billion this year in tuition for private schools, including hundreds of religious schools that teach Earth is less than 10,000 years old, Adam and Eve strolled the garden with dinosaurs, and much of modern biology, geology and cosmology is a web of lies."
http://www.politico.com/story/2014/03/educ…

Colorado REALLY does not need to produce more barely functioning nincompoops. We have enough to contend with already. "Reform"... pfft. "Deform" sounds about right.
