Re: “Long story short

Everyone's story is more complicated than it looks on the surface. My daughter is Iggy's girlfriend mentioned in the story. Kyan is my grandson. While your story does a great job of delving into the complexities of chance encounters, I am left feeling conflicted.

It was a chance encounter that brought Iggy into my daughter's life and it ended up changing all of us in ways I would never have predicted or desired. Iggy pivoted into my life and landed hard on someone who is dearer to me than life itself.

Since then I have struggled to make sense of events, to forgive Iggy, to scrub the bitterness from my heart and put the past behind me. I am sorry for Iggy's troubles but what I see most of all is that the choices Iggy made have had repercussions in more lives than his own. Iggy sees events through the filter of his own perception, but I see them through the trail of wreckage he has left behind. Is he unlucky? That depends on the point of view. In many ways he's been luckier than he thinks. He's not the only one who has paid the price of his mistakes or suffered misfortune through his own poor judgment. My daughter and grandson, even myself, have been tossed about in the wake of his passing. I see little justice in that.

I hope Iggy has changed his life for the better. I wish him well. Most of all I hope he has learned that his actions have ripple effects in the lives of others that travel farther than he can imagine.
