Re: “Why look at other cities?

At one time I was excited to return to my home town of Colorado Springs-- fresh with ideas of revitalization and a vision. After seeing the progress of downtown Denver and Capital Hill and experiencing the stagnant, conservative battles of Colorado Springs, the comparison was extremely depressing. I grew tired of defending a city spinning its wheels. I had to leave. And I will probably never return. My mother just retired, sold her house and moved to Brighton. Colorado Springs has nothing to offer... except for the Margarita at Pinecreek-- the only refuge of culture and consistency. Don't blame the economy. Colorado Springs has been spiraling to a stagnant state for decades because it lacks leadership and cohesion. It's a place that looks pretty on the surface but after the sun goes down folks retreat into their non collective worlds and mumble, "Not in my backyard, and not on my dime." Then they wake up, drive 5 miles outside their route to work to purchase a $5 latte at Starbucks and get angry at the thought of paying that amount for street maintenance.
