Re: “City brand: Is that all?

Well, $110,000 used to be able to buy you a nice, house, a new car, pay for your kid's college, and have a little left for a retirement nest egg.
Now it get's a simple (not exciting, not fresh, hardly upbeat) pair of logos. It also gets explanations on how money collected as a tax on rental cars and hotel rooms isn't taxpayer money because apparently people that live here never ever ever use a rental car, or stay a night or two at local hotels for a getaway or so they can imbibe at a company holiday party.
Couldn't they have come up with something better? Maybe a term from the Ute language, a play on words regarding Pike's Peak, something that says send us your money?

Re: “'Stop the killing'

Coming from a family that for generations has served and continues to serve, we thank you for exercising those constitutionally protected rights that we defend. Now please recognize some important facts about our society and behave appropriately.
First, since 1787 this nation's constitution has been protected by the military, never in that time has it turned on the nation, and has followed the orders of the commander in chief regardless of that officeholder's ability or character.
Second, this nation's military has never started a conflict. They do not choose the fight, they carry it out on orders.
Third, this current conflict was not started by the US. There was no way to peacefully resolve the conflict with Al Queda as they are not a nation but a criminal group. The Taliban government in Afghanistan openly supported this criminal group. The reason we are still in Afghanistan ten years later is that we are trying to leave it as a nation where the law and all human rights are respected, not a breeding ground for more terrorist organizations, not a land where women are murdered for trying to learn.
Last, understand that the technology being brought to the fight from places like Schriever reduces US, allied, and non-combatant casualties. It serves to follow the tradition of fighting a ruthless enemy from higher moral ground, protecting innocents that may be in the area of conflict.

Re: “Altitude adjustment for CAB at Fort Carson

Wonderful how we can get so many predictions of lost income and scandal based on what?
This area has done such a wonderful job bringing in large employers like HP (oh wait, they left), uh Intel (dang), MC..(rats) uh Western Fo..(oh they're way reduced too...)

The fact is that A CAB on Carson means money in local tills. GIs and their families do not do all that much shopping on post (check out the stores near Carson), they but cars and pay the tax on that, stereos, pizzas, lap dances, and computers all in the local economy. That doesn't even include the boon for local tattoo parlors.

As for critics, well Bill, it seems the military hasn't done a thing you like since they took on the goose-stepper.

I live close enough to hear retreat played at Carson and welcome the CAB, rotors and all. They make a lot less noise than the clients at the day care across the street.

Re: “Doug Bruce: Groupthinking

Typical move by DB and his team of superheroes- use loopholes in the law to avoid the intent, cry foul when anyone wants you to follow the rules.
One example of how in-tune The Reform Team is; I have noticed several of their banners, OUTSIDE the city limits, viewable only to those headed further into the county, and several on public lands that are supposed to be off limits for signs.
What a bunch of maroons.
