Kohnami Sushi could be more quaint, but they’d have to try pretty hard. Past the adorable patio, the small dining room’s packed with tables and colorful decor. We opt for a few lunch combos, more affordable than filling up on rolls as a rule. The teriyaki beef with unagi roll, a bento box, comes with rice, miso soup and a side salad of iceberg lettuce, cabbage and carrots. Said salad comes undressed, but the thin slices of beef chew sweet-savory and pleasantly tender, and the unagi roll’s a pleasant addition. We also note a Korean ramen section on the menu, so we get egg ramen, which comes with a salmon roll on the side. We can’t complain about the roll, and the ramen arrives in a cast iron bowl, still boiling for some minutes after it arrives at the table. The poached egg enriches a mildly spicy broth, which holds soft noodles that resemble the packaged variety and a selection of veggies — mushrooms and zucchini stand out most — that chew as if just barely cooked.
