There was a time when horror-core rapper and entrepreneur Tech N9ne could be counted on to play two Black Sheep dates a year, but that was before he’d begun headlining Red Rocks and touring in a bus that would barely fit in the venue’s parking lot. Fortunately for fans of Tech’s Strange Music empire, his understudy and fellow Kansas City native Krizz Kaliko has taken his place on the club circuit, and is doing a good job of it. The rapper has guested alongside Tech N9ne on more than a hundred tracks — trust me, I counted — released a half-dozen studio albums, and, as one might expect, earned a position of respect within the Juggalo community. Kaliko’s latest album, GO, continues his tradition of lyrical honesty about his bipolar condition and other personal challenges, and the sentiments on its penultimate track, “Stop the World,” are as moving as any you’re likely to hear. “A message to the mentally disturbed / Don’t kill yourself / Or anyone else / Stay here with us / Your time to shine is coming / Trust.”
