This Las Palmitas is the sister location to the spot off Woodmen Road, which we likened to Chotchkie’s from Office Space due to its mid-’90s vibe. This standalone has no such throwback energy — it’s just a nice Mexican restaurant with bright colors and a pleasant bar that hosts two TVs, both playing soccer. We start with a house margarita ($5) which comes in a massive glass with copious salt. Sadly, it’s heavy on sugar and so dilute that we can’t even taste the tequila — quantity ain’t quality here. Food rates better. The camarones al mojo de ajo ($11.95) come deveined and properly cooked, swimming in a decadent garlic butter sauce with mushrooms. Said shrooms are garlic-butter sponges and the best part of the meal, great for punching up pretty standard rice and beans served on the side. We also enjoy the Las Palmitas burrito ($9.55), with chicken. It comes under a mild but chile-forward green chile, and the chicken within’s tender and well-seasoned. It’s pretty good Tex-Mex overall.
