Re: “Off target

Confused, Thanks for the advice. I've just been frustrated by this article, reporter and editor. As a high achiever, I feel it set me back in peoples minds in Colorado Springs. Its just one article tho, maybe someday the CSIndy will swing my way. It must be hard to report new accurately weekly. I adore the curators at Sangre de Cristo and Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, they are the ones who noticed me and ultimately gave me the breaks that have been helping me. Next, more shows around Colorado hopefully. Anybody feel free to contact me about collecting my work. I LOVE that! I love my work out in the world. My drawings are inexpensive and I love giving paintings away! --so you never know. Just so you know tho, saying 'race card' demeans real struggles real people actually go thru. I'm naturally a positive person and have overcome alot and try to encourage thru my art.

Re: “Off target

I guess what I can't ultimately figure out is why it wasn't noteworthy to fact-check and mention that I worked at the Museum of Modern Art in the Office of the Chief-Curator-at-Large in this article. That would have been most relevent to how I got the idea of gifting paintings to celebs, and would have given me a speck of legitamacy in an otherwise completely one-sided article. (Incidently, Time Burton is even having a show there in November. I'm going to try to get a painting to him.) Its just hard for me to figure out, she had all this information about my expansive education and impressive work history and none of that came out in the article to give me the least shred of legitamacy. How was thatoverlooked by her, the editor or the staff. One art degree listed--nothing. It's hurtful and yes, I believe, it ultimately was racist. My husband said: "Baby, You are a Chicana from Pueblo with one-in-a-million credentials, doing something noone has ever heard doing, they just couldn't believe their eyes."

Re: “Off target

Where exactly is Hispania? You call me a hispanic. I'm Chicana. Those who have never experienced racism in their life are lucky. Blessings to you. I'm just sticking up for myself and calling it like I see it. Who has the power in this situation. Not me. I dont print thousands of newspapers a week and influence thousands of peoples opinions. I paint. And work hard building a life which others recently have found tremendously easy to tear down on a wim. If that's making myself look bad, then so be it. Am I defensive? Yes. Its been a long hard road and I take 5 steps forward only to get set 15 steps back. Story of my life. All I'm saying is: it gets old. And I do get tired of it. But my people believe in me and I have never compromised myself in any way in my life or my art and thats all that matters.

Re: “Off target

It'll always be hard for Chicanos with reporters and editors like Edie and Ralph around. How am I supposed to get any gallery shows in Colorado Springs now, when they didnt print any comprehensive factual information about my exemplary resume or art work at all. All I can say is, there it is, racism in black and white.

Re: “Off target

CoRockies, Thank you, but the Colorado Springs Independent was wrong. You can't convince me that this article was in anyway positive for me. They slammed me and did not do me any favors. Shoddy reporting written at my expense when I'm just trying to make it in the art world as one of the few Chicana artists out there around now. How much do you think either museum loves me now? And Ralph Routon, it happened on your watch. And he's proud of it. He said so. Him and his staff sittin around happy, eating cake, celebrating--we took Maria Lopez down, who did she think she was with her innovative art, innovative ideas, to try make it in the art world. haha gotta have a sense of humor about it. anyway...back to painting. :)m
