Lost in Space

When: Sun., May 15, 3 p.m. 2016
Phone: 685-6468

For science-fiction TV aficionados, the title Lost in Space may trigger distant memories of an old-school robot frantically waving its arms and shouting "Danger, Will Robinson!" But for patrons of the Pikes Peak Philharmonic, "Lost in Space" will be the final installment in a season of "Lost..." concerts (the previous one being "in Thought," "in Battle," "at Sea," and "in the Wilderness"). Repertoire will include Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra — which accompanied 2001's iconic "ape's weapon turns into spaceship" scene — as well as Jerry Goldsmith's Star Trek Through the Years and John Williams' Close Encounters. Ironically, Williams' sprightly theme for Lost in Space will not be performed, which is probably for the best. 3 p.m. (pre-concert lecture at 2:15), Mitchell High School, 1205 Potter Drive, $10/adult; $8/seniors; $5/military, students, and ages 13-18; kids 12-and-under get in free with paying adult; 685-6468, — Bill Forman
