The Manitou Incline is set to reopen Dec. 1, according to the Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC). The heavily used trail — that gains about 2,000 feet in elevation over less than a mile — has been closed since Aug. 19 for repairs. The improvements, a joint effort between the cities of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs, are in their third phase, meaning that repairs focused on the upper third of the trail — the steepest, and therefore most difficult, to work on. The work, according to a press release at the outset, included replacing damaged retaining walls, clearing exposed rebar, adding new drainage structures, better anchoring existing ties and stabilizing the surrounding slopes. The $2 million project was funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery Program.
