What this guy (the driver) was doing was reprehensible however the article makes a GREAT comment regarding the fact that it's both sides responsibility to solve the problem. Far too many cyclists ride as though they own the road, riding three abreast into the actual lane, not properly signaling turns (we all learned the hand signals at some point in our life) and ignoring dangerous situations.
In my opinion cyclists need to be held to the same standards as motorists. They need to be licensed to drive on certain roads and have a plate so they can be identified if they are acting inappropriately.
Additionally the licencing would help to pay for the roads that the cyclists use. If cyclists want bigger bike lanes they need to contribute accordingly.
