Re: “Concrete Couch wants to allow a temporary homeless camp at its new location. But is it a pipe dream?

Before you get too excited about this, take a bike ride down the Pikes Peak Greenway and look at the cleanup necessary from some of these large camps. Also talk to the business owner who ended up having to issue eviction notices after the camping he allowed on his land down there got out of control.

Re: “The mass eviction at Emerald Towers Apartments is just the tip of the iceberg

Even at Greccio, your gross monthly income has to be 3 TIMES the rent youre paying in order to qualify for their housing assistance. That means for that so-called affordable rent of $1,100/month, you need to be grossing $3,300/month. Even for a single person, if they found you a place for $700/month youd need to be making $2,100/month to be qualified. Impossible with the low-wage jobs here (average pay for an Executive/Administrative Assistant is $12-$13/hour. Thats if you have a college degree and some experience. If youre working as a 7-11 clerk, at minimum wage, forget it). Supposedly their waitlist is over a year long. What are people who fall under that limit supposed to do?

Re: “New homeless camp is a first in self-governance

There are a bunch of tents set up along the Midland Trail, just past Chestnut Street, that are a bit scary to ride by. I was waiting to either be jumped or run over a hypodermic needle - that's just the impression given by the disarray of this "camping" site. The camp that was mowed down along the creek just before America the Beautiful Park still has a ton of trash and clothing/sleeping bags strewn about. I've always thought the HOT guys did a good job, but the slant of this story makes me think differently.

Re: “Trial set for "Sit/Lie" protesters

So, evidently this law is no longer being enforced? Recently, we were cycling along Cascade, past the downtown library, and I noticed several people lying on the sidewalk in front of the library.

Re: “Residents make do — but don't make peace — with their contaminated water

Maybe I'm just stupid, but why can't these homes be provided with filters on their faucets, instead of contributing to landfill waste with all the empty plastic bottles?

Re: “Eye in the sky?

Um, wouldn't it require staff to maintain and fly? Staff that would be paid a "life-long pension"???
