Indy: During the 1990s, you had eight No. 1 country singles. But like a lot of artists who enjoyed success then, you've been pushed aside this decade by country radio. You've been saying, though, that with your new CD, Rollin' with the Flow, and your new record company, Lofton Creek, you feel some of the same potential you felt when you started with MCA Records in the 1990s. How is the situation similar?

MC: They [at Lofton Creek] have got it all together. As aggressively as they're pushing this single [the CD's title song] and then pushing me, I'm real anxious to see how well the album does ... I haven't had this much attention from a label in years, and I'm really enjoying it.

Indy: Do you see any trends in country music today that might make your style of traditional country a better fit on radio?

MC: There are a lot more fans now wanting to hear my kind of music, which is traditional country and honky-tonk country. There are still a whole lot of real hardcore country fans out there, and there are a lot of new guys, not only guys, but a lot of new singers, guys and girls, in this business who are keeping it alive, who came up here in the last few years. ... I'm glad to see that [traditional] country music has made such a big comeback. And I've got to thank guys like Toby Keith, Brad Paisley and people like that for singing Southern songs, the kind of stuff that I started doing years ago.

Indy: Even though you haven't had a radio hit since 2002, you still tour quite a bit. How has that side of your career been?

MC: We haven't slowed down a bit. We have been just as busy as we've ever been.
