Re: “Manitou's Great Fruitcake Toss canceled

Seems like a poor choice given the limited details here in this article. If you're experiencing poor economic times, you would think something like this would be good to spur the economy, unless it has been analyzed that the costs outweigh the benefits. Tough one.

Re: “Sunblock for SunShare

All due respect Lisa, but it sounds like you made a decision to postpone this based on fear of the unknown. Leaders make bold decisions to take their entities to greater places. A 'no' vote only did more to solidify our position as a city as mediocre at best. It is really no wonder that YPs flee for greener pastures.

Re: “Manitou eliminates free parking (and the much-beloved battle for it)

I heard Manitou is also installing a shuttle from a parking lot down the way - which would help too. I don't think the whole parking meter thing is a big deal, especially if it helps pay for a shuttle system. Manitou parking has always been dreadful, even in Winter. So maybe this will help with that problem some. And to all you saying you won't go to Manitou anymore - I guess time will tell.

Re: “As civil unions move forward in Colorado, same-sex couples share their stories

It's not a lifestyle choice. You're an idiot. I'm sure gay people wake up and ask how they can feel alienated and have less rights than others... yep, let's choose that lifestyle. Seriously dude?

And the comment about power of attorney etc... just plain false.

By the way, two of my best friends are a gay couple raising a child, and doing a fantastic job at it to boot. Much better than your parents did, clearly.

Re: “UPDATE: Colorado Springs to get our 60 Minutes of fame

I agree with you that there have been failings in government here in Colorado Springs. Lots of examples in the past of this. The point is though, don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Joan: "YOU pay for what YOU use, be it a neighborhood park or public transportation, and I'll pay for what I use."

That's idiotic. We are a COMMUNITY. Not individuals living in a vacuum. This is a democratic republic, not a collection of individual homes with no connection or relation. Views like yours are just so silly... I can't even begin to fathom where you think this logic will take us. If that's how you want to live, go live in the middle of nowhere and build all of your own roads and hire your own personal hospital/police/fire. *SHM*

Re: “UPDATE: Colorado Springs to get our 60 Minutes of fame

It's really quite sad reading some of these comments. Simplifying the beliefs of huge swaths of people by using one word descriptions... what a terrible display of mental laziness.

Let's be fair here - Colorado Springs has had a tumultuous and often embarrassing response to revenue downfall. We had citizens vote to not increase sales taxes by one penny and the ramifications meant less street lights, less fire fighters, less police...

I for one agree with J. Adrian Stanley that we are indeed the laughing stock of the country when it comes to these issues. We have people not willing to pay one extra penny for huge benefits to the community. Instead, we're stuck with an aging infrastructure and diminished public services and as a result no large corporations worth a damn want to relocate here. Why come to Colorado Springs when you can relocate to Denver, Boulder or Fort Collins - all the same benefits and none of the terrible public obsession over taxation and "personal freedom." You get what you pay for, y'all.
