Re: “The tick and the time bomb

The Minn. Lymefighters have been humble heroes in the Lyme community, powerful voices for advocacy despite dealing with Lyme themselves. I'm honoured to stand and be counted with them and the the truth of chronic stand against the profiteering, the abuse of patients and the misinformation from that panel of fourteen. My daughter has suffered for over a decade with Lyme. It took us eight years to find help. The IDSA panel is welcome to their opinion...but the patients deserve the right of choice, the right of informed consent. Before beginning ILADS-based treatment, when she was in her wheelchair, having Parkinson-like tremors, hands curled-in, Bell's Palsy and a myriad of other symptoms...she was told to get used to this as life and was 'fired' by the Harvard-trained doctor who said he could do nothing. We saw proof when my daughter was able to get up from her wheelchair before her first year of treatment passed. The last, beautiful gift from Leslie Wermers to our family...was our connection with her sister, Tracie. Les could lead a parade...Tracie would organize it, while taking care of her sister. Now we stand together. As my daughter and I have always said, the truth is our mantra. There are two reasons (we believe) that you are hearing more stories about Lyme. One, every year the community swells by possibly 200,000 and two, more chronic patients are receiving progressive treatment so they and their families can turn from just managing, crisis to crisis, towards more advocacy and education. None of us want your family to know the journey ours' have walked. Chronic Lyme exists and the numbers of Lyme cases are growing in every state and province of North America. The IDSA is asking you to ignore the evidence of a rising epidemic. I applaud this paper for printing a story of the biggest medical news NOT being told in the mainstream. Thank you.
