Re: “Marking their territories

I am very, very, very bothered by this story. A good friend of mine is a Colorado volunteer for the new dog adoption website www.DogsInDanger.com. It's a listing of adoptable shelter dogs that are scheduled to be euthanized. It is a wonderful website. She has discussed the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region with me on more than one ocassion to express her frustration with their denial that they euthanize healthy, friendly dogs and their refusal to list those dogs on this free website as a last chance to save their lives. They claim that they only euthanize suffering, hopelessly ill or vicious dogs. A bold-faced lie. She has made numerous phone calls and sent faxes and emails to the shelter manager and director. They do not even have the common courtesy to respond to her. I guess it's not surprising that they would treat this compassionate animal-loving woman so disrespectfully. It is obvious that they do not care whether the animals in their care live or die so why would they care about a simple program that could save so many lives. She has spoken to nearly every animal shelter in Colorado and has had a difficult time convincing the front range animal shelters (metro Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo) that DogsInDanger is a proven way to save their dogs from death. Apparently, they do not want to be associated with killing healthy dogs for fears of losing public and private funding. To admit such would be bad for "public image," and so the dogs continue to die at an alarming rate. Anyone who is concerned about the startling numbers of healthy dogs being killed in Colorado's animal shelters should visit DogsInDanger.com and become educated with how it works. Once everyone realizes what a wonderful service it is, hopefully they will confront the animal shelters in their communities to ask them why they are not taking advantage of this free service. Get involved! Help save our shelter dogs!! Name withheld for obvious reasons
