Re: “Nickel and doomed

The city thinks the problem of lack of business downtown is because of the homeless. This is pure hogwash!!! I live a few blocks away from downtown and I don't even get coffee from downtown. For me and most of my friend the parking is the biggest problem. Between the lack of convenient or available parking, the parking meters and the constant patrol of the meter police, it is not worth the hassle to go downtown.
The other problem that I have is the new big brother cameras. To walk past an officer is one thing, to walk or drive past a camera that in the near future could have facial recognition software or auto plate reading software that is connected to a government agency and is never deleted really bothers me. I you think I am the only one who thinks this is a problem, many of my friends and office co-workers feel the same way.
The third reason is the lack of real reason to go downtown. There are better restaurants around town (with free parking), better boutique shops in old Colorado City (there is free and convenient parking) and at night the bars are all the same (almost all are owned by the same guy) cookie cutter bars full of soldiers or CC students that bought an outfit at the Buckle and now think they are "all that".
If Colorado Springs ever wants to have the downtown become a destination place they need to make it worth while and reasonably convenient to go to.
