‘It’s sort of like your favorite local groups joining a wrestling league,” explains emcee Zetfree FoundDed of Bullhead*ded, whose group will once again compete in the Black Sheep’s annual Metal VS Hip Hop event.

Now in its fourth year, the showcase pits bands against rappers in full-length, back-and-forth battle sets. This year’s event will pair off TEQNiK G vs. Put to Rights, Bullhead*ded vs. Lavinia Unknown, and Clydesdale vs. Sonic Vomit. There’ll also be a live beat battle between Big Ro and Sonic Vomit drummer Anthony Soto.

As you might guess, the good-humored competitions can be seriously hilarious, and fans respond in kind. “The crowds are very passionate, and both sides leave feeling an admiration and respect for the other genre,” says Zetfree, who appropriated the enemy’s image at last year’s competition. “I dressed up in face-paint and spikes to show that I am also metal as fuck,” laughs the rapper.
“It’s probably my favorite show of the year,” says promoter Gary Vanderpool, “because it isn’t normal at all.
