Re: “Letters

Hey Jim Gosse - if you want to know what your PPRTA sales tax dollars have been spent on, go to the PPRTA web site and read the annual reports. The funds that are coming in (which are lower now with the bad economy) have been spent on lots of big capital projects (remember the lists we all voted on) like numerous intersection projects, the Austin Bluffs/Union interchange and the Woodman/Academy project underway. It has also been providing 10% to transit, which would be all but gone if there wasn't PPRTA money (10% of every cent is going to transit but very little local money is now going to transit, hence the cuts). And there has been a lot of curb, sidewalks, asphalt and the like replaced over the past 5 or so years. As for the fact that a few of your elected officials from the City sit on the PPRTA Board, well duh! That's how you are represented - by someone elected by voters, not just someone appointed to that Board. If you want you can always volunteer for a seat on the PPRTA's Citizen Advisory Committee if you really want to do something valuable.
