Re: “Choice of lesbian commandant at Air Force Academy stirs debate

Someone needs to put together a compelling argument why the General's sexual orientation matters. They can't do it. She is a warrior in my mind, honest, ethical, and loves our country. Where's the beef against her? Not a F-22 manly man? I'll gladly serve with anyone who swears to support and defend ... Come on, do you really think everyone in the AF is a hetero male?

Re: “New female AFA commandant moving here soon, with her wife

Wow, good job Air Force. Can't go wrong with an AFGSC warrior. That's the correct worldview and will likely cut out some of the buffoonery at AFA.

Re: “Peterson AFB launches commander investigation into religious display

To Tom McMinn ... Disagree. Removing the bible display means the Major's subordinates don't have to worry they won't get good assignments or promotions because they don't follow the Major's particular religious practices. It is a logical fallacy to say not establishing a religion is tantamount to establishing atheism.

Re: “Peterson AFB launches commander investigation into religious display

A Major has a leadership position and he has a captive audience. What objective is he trying to achieve by making such a point with his studied and marked up bible? Does he want everyone to know how humble he is or perhaps he wants everyone to know how much he loves Christ? No matter what his objective, the NSSI is for learning astrodynamics. It is not a place of worship and this display is inappropriate. How did he arrive at this decision? Maybe he should resign his commission and go start a church somewhere, because it would be better to have a copy of “Fundamentals of Astrodynamics and Applications”, or “Understanding Space” on display as those books are not some bronze age fantasy. He has brought disgrace and discredit to his organization.

Re: “UPDATE: Academy "partners" with religion, drawing criticism

Clearly it took considerable NLC resources especially people’s time to set the concert set up, and then support the production. Ask the question, “Why did NLC do this?” All the likely answers lead to their mission of advancing the evangelical Christian agenda. So the USAFA band implicitly lent the imprimatur of the USAF to that ideological crusade.

Two troubling things, the juxtaposition of the NLC symbol and the USAF symbol on the ads and flyers, and use of the word “Partnership.” The USAF needs to come out and disavow any partnership with the NLC. By juxtaposing the symbols the NLC is intentionally trying to equate the USAF with the NLC.

It would be better to not have a concert in a big church sanctuary out of convenience, than to promote the NLC agenda.

Re: “Weinstein explains why he defends Muslims

Mikey and the MRFF demonstrate the clear eyed thinking and understanding about the importance of keeping senior officers and NCOs from using their position to proselytize converts to their own version of religion whatever that religion may be.
The US military consists of Christians (Protestant and Catholic), Jews, Muslims, atheists, Buddhists, and every religion that can be named (please take no offense if your religion isn’t listed). All these men and women share in the idea of the US, and have sworn an oath that “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies”. It is this oath they follow. It is not “god’s law”, and anything else is a betrayal of their affirmation. It is a few vocal members that stir up trouble by insisting on inappropriate displays of piety. IMHO they would be more effective quietly living their lives according to their religion (or not), and STOP trying to gather converts by public displays on government property.

Re: “USAFA's 'Tebow' prayer stirs controversy

PacksA9 resorts to name calling. Not helpful. I agree the 1st Amendment is very important, perhaps that's why it's the 1st, but there is also a tension within it. To say cadets praying on the football field is protected by the first amendment should be quickly rejected. There are plenty of places for them to make their prayers, and they can freely practice their religion in more appropriate venues. Once again, forcing a particular religious practice causes problems, within this thread we can see how quickly it spirals into uncivil discourse.

There is a quiet strength in people who are willing to use their real names in conversations, and in that manner be held accountable for their views. Those persons certainly have a courage missing from those who remain anonymous behind cute avatars and screen names.
