Mint Field, with Neighbor Lady and American Grandma, Wednesday, March 21, 8 p.m., Denver., lost-lake.com
This has been a phenomenal month for Mint Field, two Tijuana-based 21-year-olds who’ve been making waves with the kind of gorgeously transcendent music for which the word “ethereal” was surely created. Singer-guitarist Estrella Sanchez and drummer-synthesist Amor Amezcua have just kicked off their American tour with nine shows at SXSW, while their new single “Quiero Otoño De Nuevo” was handpicked by Sir Elton John to play on his
Rocket Radio Show this week. The song’s tranced-out dance rhythm is lifted straight out of the Joy Division and Can playbooks, while previous single “Ojos En El Carro” draws upon the dream-pop sound of 4AD acts like the Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance. Both tracks can be found on Mint Field’s debut album,
Pasar De Las Luces, the latest release from L.A.’s fast-rising Innovative Leisure label.
