Mark Adkins found out the hard way that public nudity is against the law.

While on stage, Adkins lead singer for punk rock band Guttermouth occasionally would strip down to his bare, God-given self. During a show in Canada, the act earned him an ejection from the club and deportation from the country.

"The world's changed in the last 10 years," Adkins says. "You can't get away with what you used to."

Such antics have defined Guttermouth since the Southern California punk-rock scene blew up in the early 1990s. Guttermouth has been known to spit back and forth with audience members. Show energy is so intense, riots have broken out, injuring security guards. During the 2004 Warped Tour, the band routinely lambasted fellow acts My Chemical Romance and The Used as those bands left the stage.

In the Southern California scene, Adkins insists such indecency is common. Nationally, however, these antics have earned Guttermouth a reputation as one of the most raucous, offensive and outrageous bands on stage.

"It's hard for me to go see bands anymore," Adkins says. "All the bands look the same now, especially newer bands. I don't understand how kids like it."

For its part, Guttermouth continues trying to keep energy levels high and insanity flowing.

"If you're playing in New York and everyone's a snob and they just stand around and watch, we're not gonna be able to respond to that," Adkins says. "But if you have a good crowd who appreciates what you're doing, you can let it go down."
