Re: “Marijuana 'incidents' on the rise at Manitou Springs High School

The KKTV report is not only factually unfounded, but borderline defamatory in nature.

First, how did Dr. Finn "compile data" about these so-called "incidents"? No indication is given by KKTV as to the scientific validity of this information collected, which is portrayed as factual in their report. According to Mr. Miller's statement to the Indy, these alleged incidents could be nothing more than rumors "overheard by faculty". Legally speaking, that is called "hearsay", and difficult to prove in a court of law without recording devices.

Maggie's Farm seems to be a scapegoat which can only have a negative impact on this business. Please remember that Maggie's Farm is a legally incorporated, tax-paying business that is being unfairly targeted by Dr. Finn, and by KKTV. It is understandable that Dr. Finn is worried for his children's safety, but is it wise to lay the blame on a local shopkeeper? Is it wise to call them out in the press, especially as no founded connection has been made between Maggie's and MSHS?

As an alumnus of MSHS, I can do little but chuckle hearing that there were "14 incidents" dealing with marijuana at this school, let alone marijuana discussion. Countess were the number of times I heard, overheard, or even partook in a marijuana-related incident.
I am a father of 2, hold a PhD, have a wonderful family…and partake in "marijuana incidents" to this day. I don't believe that I have been corrupted by the devil weed (my wife might say otherwise :). IMO, Dr. Finn should chill out, focus his energies elsewhere, and not worry about his sons' attending MSHS. If he doesn't feel the environment fit for them, he always has the option of placing them in a less marijuana-infested high school. Good luck.

I would seriously doubt that even 1% of total marijuana consumed by MSHS students comes from Maggie's Farm. Besides, if Maggie's disappeared, kids would just get it elsewhere, let's get real.
