Re: “Douglas Bruce files suit against El Paso County over TABOR

Doug Bruce says, "TABOR requires a ballot measure to state a dollar amount to be collected and the government must adhere to that dollar amount."

The ballot measure is very specific in the dollar amount to be collected: "By increasing the county's sales and use tax rate by twenty-three hundredths of a cent ($0.0023) per dollar." The statement about how much that equals clearly says "approximately."

It seems pretty basic to me that there is absolutely no way you can nail down an exact amount a sales tax will raise, but the amount to be collected is very clear, $0.0023 per dollar. The word "approximately" does not tie this bill to $17 million exactly.

And 10 percent interest? Tell me where you're banking Mr. Bruce, because I need to get in on some of those interest rates!

While I appreciate protecting taxpayers, this lawsuit seems like a complete waste of time and money. The language is clear on the amount to be collected. Now, get back to worrying about your own taxes Mr. Bruce, since you seem to have a difficult time getting those right.

Re: “NORAD returns to Cheyenne Mountain bunker, sorta

Yep, when you serve your country for 38 years, you do get a pension. Not sure what that had to do with the story, beyond a silly little dig at a decorated veteran.

Re: “Payback time

I have to say, I'm still amuzed by people who were upset with the ballot wording. For those who didn't take enough time to understand the issues (and wording) before they stepped into the booth, and/or don't have basic reading comprehension (a high school education), please stop blaming the wording. I don't at all feel sorry for people who don't educate themselves before voting. All of the wording was available ahead of the election and if you didn't understand it, you should have done some research to figure it out. To many people just walk up to their polling place and cast their ballots without doing any research first. "Blatantly deceiving the public." Now that is ridiculous! Regardless, this is just a Republican primary... Who you vote for in the primary will not affect change nearly as much as who you vote for in the general election.

Re: “Furniture fetish

Did he overspend for some furniture? Maybe. But I think the lead of this story is buried as the second sentence of the third graph. The lead is that he transferred money from his current office to his future office. That seems like a crime to me.

Re: “Paper losses

Newspaper numbers are down around the entire country... This really is not news. Newsflash, MySpace is no longer popular. Come on Indy, give me some real news.

Re: “Bach says NO to gay pride proclamation

For the record, I'm a Bach supporter, but what does "My priorities are to transform our city government so that it works for everyone again and lead the charge to facilitate job creation for our citizens" have to do with not signing a proclamation?

Just come out and say you don't support it and move on. The mayor could have done a better job in his response, instead of providing some lame form letter that has nothing to do with the letter he was asked to sign.

Come on Mayor Bach, you can do better!
