Biography of Michael A. Baca I was born in 1958 on December 20th in Los Angeles, California a few years later my parents moved to New Mexico; there I remained until my later teens. After my parents divorced things got a little hard for them and four kids, I’m the oldest as I have 1 sister and two brothers. To me it felt like it’s all about survival now, I can remember how small Las Cruces, N.M. was in the early sixties. I explored the whole city and met a lot of people some would become friends for life, I was always curious about anything I could learn be it bad or good. When I entered Jr High I hung out with “bad guys” I did this for protection from bullies. I decided to join the local boxing club to protect myself and doing so I learned self-discipline which helped me in life, many of my friends were in the boxing club and I remember the good feeling when I was in the ring. I didn’t get that many bouts but I loved the training, my record 11-4 and runner-up champ in the Silver Gloves Championships. After High School I enlisted in the military where I really learned who I was, when I got out I moved to California, in doing so I turned to the gang life which really messed me up. I felt like I was the toughest gangster around which got me into a lot of trouble. After getting to the point where rivals wanted to “take me out” I had to leave California and back to New Mexico I returned, the more I wanted to straighten out the more trouble I was getting into. I became a parent and that turned my life around completely, my kid’s had given me a reason to take control of my life. So I decided to settle down and work and become a normal person again, I am a proud father of three girls and a son. Now my children have children of their own and I am proud to be a grand-parent. For once I feel like my life was in sync, I have recently re-married and everything just fell in place and I couldn’t be happier. So now I want to set morals for my kids and grandkids and help them to do the right thing, I also want help kids who are troubled without direction in their life, which is why I decided to go to college to get the skills I need to become that example. I really feel that all who are in my life will see this and become more stable in their lives and will profit of what I am to them. I had become a boxing coach about ten years ago and was helping kids to stay off the streets and teaching them self discipline, making them feel like a person and something to be proud of. I really enjoyed the feeling of helping these kids, this is the reason for the education I decided get; Criminal Justice will be my field and I hope to become a probation officer and try my magic with troubled children. I’m always up for a good challenge and this would be it; I believe I am able to do this. My caring wife stands by my decisions and I feel my life is the best it has been, although it seemed like I would never get to this point it has been a long journey. I have worked very hard all my life so now I can enjoy the career I have been waiting for. Life is good and my Mother always told me “Life is what you make of it” I now truly believe that is the truth, I just turned fifty and I feel like my life has just begun everything is great.
