A Colorado Springs campaign created to combat teen suicide is going statewide, according to a statement from the Colorado Department of Human Services.

Posters, stickers and cards from the “Below the Surface” campaign encourage students to use the state’s crisis line, which offers professional mental health counseling to anyone who calls 844-493-8255 or texts “TALK” to 38255.

As of Oct. 8, 16 El Paso County schools were using the campaign, developed by the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) Colorado Springs and the Design Rangers creative strategy firm with the input of local students.

There have been two completed youth suicides this year in El Paso County, compared with an average of 14 over the previous three years
