New releases from Luther Russell, The Claypool Lennon Delirium and more

Luther Russell, Medium Cool
  • Luther Russell, Medium Cool
Luther Russell, Medium Cool (Fluff & Gravy Records) – A year after the release of a two-disc compendium from this favorite L.A. session musician, Russell is back with 10 new tunes to prove power-pop is not dead. The tight and exuberant emotion in tracks like “Corvette Summer” and “Blue Balloon” assure the nostalgic not to mourn the passage of The Raspberries or Big Star — Russell is carrying the torch quite adequately.

The Claypool Lennon Delirium, South of Reality
  • The Claypool Lennon Delirium, South of Reality
The Claypool Lennon Delirium, South of Reality (ATO Records) – When Primus bassist Les Claypool last joined forces with Sean Lennon in late 2016, the first Delirium album had the crazed psychedelia feel of Lennon’s dad John on Magical Mystery Tour. This time around, the stories display more Armageddon than flowers, but the arrangements are just as maniacal.

Vandoliers, Forever
  • Vandoliers, Forever
Vandoliers, Forever (Bloodshot Records) – Joshua Fleming, former lead singer of The Phuss, founded Vandoliers in Dallas in 2015 with the full intent of creating an informal cowboy-punk band based on a Drive-By Truckers template. After two small-label releases, the band moved to Bloodshot for a broader release, but retains the informal shitkicker feel. Vandoliers are reinventing cowboy fun.
