Re: “Star treatment

Threatening law enforcement with a gun and being allowed to work in the jail is okay but sleeping on the job is grounds for termination? Not demotion, or reassignment to the jail. Sounds like preferential treatment or maybe grounds for a lawsuit. Not the kind of leadership the city needs for another 4 years. Will the other deputy who was caught sleeping on extra duty be fired too??? I don't think you can pick and choose which rules to enforce and who is accountable to those rules or at least it shouldn't be like that.

Another poster raised a very good concern: Maketa is hoping to get re-elected so that he can resign and then select the next sheriff. Do we really want 1 man to chose our next sheriff? A man who shows lack of leadership, preferential treatment and questionable conduct is not someone deserving of that kind of power.

Re: “As questions swirl, Sheriff Maketa's opponent weighs in

What a difference a word makes: Sleeping on the job will cost you your job but Sleeping around on the job gives you a promotion.

Can't believe a deputy is fired for sleeping on the job but let's hope it applies to ALL deputies who are found to be sleeping on the job whether is your regular shift or extra duty (which is handsomely paid) shifts. Maybe the deputies who wrote a memo detailing the misconduct of sleeping on duty will write a memo regarding other misconduct that they have knowledge of. Oh, but wait, command staff usually toss those memos right? I guess it depends on who the guilty party is.

Re: “As questions swirl, Sheriff Maketa's opponent weighs in

Sgt. Sevene is still listed (as of sheet dated March 9 thru March 15) and still performs his duties and is still treated as a SGT of day shift. What kind of demotion is that?

Re: “No badge of courage for Sheriff Maketa

Regarding Sgt Sevene - he's still listed and works as a SGT for day shift. So what kind of demotion is that exactly???

Beergate - the video needs to be released!

So many coverups at the sheriff's office - the employees and the public should be aware of what's going on. After all, it IS our gov't!

Ahhh, MEMOS, what a tedious thing they are and everyone hates writing them. How many are written that never see a file? Aren't sworn deputies and civilian employees required to report anything that violates the policy of the office or anyone that departs from the truth? I'm guessing not if it's about a "personal" friend of Maketa, regardless of the infraction.

Keep the investigation going - I know it's time consuming and there's alot out there, but it needs to be brought to the attention of the public. It needs to stop, the sheriff's office is held to a higher standard - they should be setting the example.
