Re: “Fracking Talk: Wes Wilson and Phil Doe

This talk was excellent! Too bad it was sold out and many citizens (and city council members) missed it. Lucky for us, Wes and Phil will be back for another talk, Jan 31, 6:30 p.m. Penrose Main Library, Carnegie Room. You don't want to miss this!

Re: “Aram Benyamin: Utilities is creating a bright energy future

"We enjoy some of the best air quality among all Colorados cities." that why the EPA ranks our air as "unclassifiable" and we came close to violating federal ozone standards last summer?…

Re: “Utilities need to let town know when scrubbers are down

The Drake plant should not be allowed to operate unless the scrubbers are 100% operational. Too bad the NOx scrubbing functionality was quietly eliminated. Now Colorado Springs Ozone levels are spiking and we could be in non-attainment next summer.

Re: “Pueblo could become "Colorado's clean energy hub" with coal plant closures

Meanwhile ... Colorado Springs keeps burning coal in the heart of downtown. Sad.

Re: “Incline Friends ante up for Barr Trail and RMFI

One thing which was overlooked is the promised new downhill trail for Incline users. What is the status on that? It's no surprise that the lower Barr Trail has suffered abuse. Anybody could see this coming, and it was discussed in the initial meetings years ago, then promptly ignored. We're all going to find out that it costs a lot more money to attempt to fix a trail than it would have been to protect it in the first place! Especially when the trail continues to get pounded by too many people and switchback-cutters.

Re: “Drake Power Plant meetings slated to talk about sidelining

You're right about the city not planning. But the rate increases have come from trying to make this old power plant meet air quality regulations. It would actually be cheaper to shut it down.

Re: “Reader: Incline traffic is out of control on Barr Trail

Carl is 100% right. What they did with the Incline is like building a new interstate highway with plenty of on-ramps and no off-ramps. People simply jump off wherever they please and the erosion on the hillside descending to the Barr Trail is horrific. The damage is irreparable. The downhill trail should have been in place first, before allowing hundreds of thousands to visit the incline. It's absolutely criminal.

Re: “Olympic Museum and ... what else in southwest downtown?

"There's no doubt the Olympic Museum will be breathtaking. But what else will complete the surrounding area? " This article really misses the elephant in the room. The wonderful new museum's direct neighbor will be the eyesore Drake coal power plant. Maybe drawing more attention to this dinosaur will finally convince CSU to shut it down.
