Re: “A proposed change to Section 8 looks to desegregate neighborhoods

Southeast Colorado springs USE to be a nice, middle class area.

When it was first developed in 1970, the original Deerfield Hills area was a master planned community. It had a rural and safe feeling about it. Then in 1974 the Section 8 started and some of the stupid owners started renting the houses to Section 8 and the whole neighborhood went to hell.

All of the original residents fled and it filled up with all Section 8 and welfare, which brought down the entire neighborhood. Its so sad to see what a mess it is today. Section 8 destroys any neighborhood it touches. Do not let these political hacks fool you with their sunny "its all good stories"

The Housing Authority does not screen Section 8 applicants, they can have a criminal record a mile long and still get a voucher. The entire program is corrupt. This proposal is a scam to raise taxes on working middle class people so they can give out more vouchers to those who don't, can't or won't work.

Thankfully congress has cut funding to HUD and Section 8 every year since 2005. They did not allocate any more money to fund any new vouchers for FY 2016. They barely got enough to cover what they already have. So how they think they are going to expand is a puzzlement to me.

Bottom line is this, the minute the real estate agents find out there is Section 8 on your block, the value of your house will start to go down. Those smart enough to see the writing on the wall will sell and move, it happens every time. Watch the documentary "Spanish Lake" it is on Amazon and HULU. This heartbreaking film shows what happens when Section 8 gets into your neighborhood.
