Re: “Red light cameras start operating in Colorado Springs on April 9

James' organization is supported by (and presumably funded in part by) personal injury lawyers...any questions? https://www.motorists.org/

Re: “What's true and what's false about claims on firefighters' Issue 1?

The $80K a year is for a line firefighter. Entry level firefighters start at $58K a year, and higher-ranking (i.e. Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief) are all well over the $80K mark. Add in overtime, benefits (including lifetime medical) and pension, and many are making six figures.

Re: “Collective bargaining for firefighters: yes, but...

In other words, the whole idea stinks, but we're going to tell you to vote yes, because...???

I get it, left-wingers love unions. But after outlining all the reasons this is a bad idea, and a bad deal for taxpayers and other city workers, why would you support it?

Re: “What's true and what's false about claims on firefighters' Issue 1?

"What would it take to have electeds in office where this question was not necessary?"

The firefighters union has repeatedly said that their relationship with current elected officials isn't a problem. They're claiming that they just want to protect themselves in case future administrations aren't as accommodating. In other words, they don't really need to push collective bargaining because they're already getting what they need, which begs the question...what are they going to push for if voters give them the ability to make bigger and more expensive demands? Who foots the bill? Where does that additional funding come from?

Re: “Jill Gaebler apologizes for comment at bike lane debate

Donna Drialo, Suthers didn't "move here from Denver"; he was born in Denver and adopted by a Springs couple and brought here when he was ONE MONTH OLD. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Suthers

Re: “Chamber and Mayor raise funds to fight firefighters’ collective bargaining initiative

There's a huge difference between not supporting our firefighters and not supporting UNIONS. We all love and respect our firefighters, but public employee unions do nothing but cost the taxpayers more money. Municipalities aren't private enterprises; they don't exist to make a profit. When firefighters demand higher and higher pay, that money doesn't come from excess profits, it must be taken away from another segment of the budget (like streets, parks, police, etc.)

Re: “Jill Gaebler apologizes for comment at bike lane debate

Juliette Parker, I see you all over the place, claiming that the ELECTED officials that WE THE TAXPAYERS put into office to REPRESENT us are somehow NOT chosen by us. What experience, if any, do you have that would enable you to run a city this size? Do you understand what a representative government is?
