Paris Crepe stays strong past Café Roma’s closure

Wahid Hafsaoui’s not one for major fanfare when things change. There was no great tribute when Couture’s Bistro became Café Roma, nor when Café Roma closed in early 2017. He’s a hard man to reach, but at least things seem stable at his long-standing creperie, Paris Crepe, next door. We stop by hoping to ask about Roma, but he’s on his way out the door to Denver. Drat.

But on to the food... and new to the menu, a Crepe Benedict ($10.99) gets filled with pastrami and cheese, then topped with three over-easy eggs, Hollandaise sauce and green onions. We upgrade to a buckwheat crepe for a buck more. It proves to be a substantial crepe, plenty thick but also plenty delicious, standing up adequately to all the yolk and Hollandaise atop. It tastes more like a hearty hash than Benedict, but for that, it’s satisfactory. A chai ($3.99/16-ounce) comes pleasantly perfumed in steaming milk, but not too rich.
