Parquet Courts, Courtney Barnett, and Snow Patrol with the new and noteworthy

Parquet Courts, Wide Awake! (Rough Trade) – The Savage brothers keep hitting home runs with frightening regularity on this new release, zooming from the Byrds-like “Mardi Gras Beads” to a Chk Chk Chk dance style in the title track. The world is finally realizing that this NYC band has few equals.

Courtney Barnett, Tell Me How You Really Feel (Mom + Pop) – Aussie wunderkind Barnett slows down slightly on this brilliant introspective effort with lyricism far beyond the norm, and arrangements to match.

Snow Patrol, Wildness (Polydor) – Gary Lightbody’s voice, slightly huskier since Snow Patrol’s last studio album in 2011, may mean the Irish band ends up on fewer TV soundtracks, but the delivery resembles Lightbody’s country side project Tired Pony, an unimpeachable step in the right direction.
