Pastries and house-syrup lattes delight at The Perfect Blend Coffeehouse

I want to try some of The Perfect Blend’s homemade syrups, so I ask for a half-pump each of lavender and raspberry in a coconut milk latte. Owner Stephanie Polenz says she already aims to make the syrups with as little sugar as possible, so I easily avoid cloying sweetness. It drinks with faint hints of the syrups (ideal to me), velvety and rich as coconut milk is when steamed, and notably smooth with Mission Coffee’s Northern Italian espresso roast (they also make a custom Peruvian/Guatemalan blend for her fine drip coffee). From an array of baked items available through local Just BE’s Pastries & More, I select an apricot Danish, beautifully layered, airy and popping with fruit flavor and restrained icing enhancement — wholly delightful. A blueberry-lemon tart shows its gluten-free-ness via common textural trade-offs, including a thick but pleasing crust, and it could be more citrus-bright, but in its subtlety, an elegance remains; it tops many GF offerings elsewhere. This is a hidden spot worth finding.
