Ms. Larroquette's fundamental assumption is wrong. The majority of funding for local roads comes from general taxes, mostly sales tax. So bicyclists' share of cost for these roads roughly equals that of motor vehicle drivers. A greater share of state roads and federal highways construction and maintenance is paid for by gasoline and other motor vehicle associated taxes, but some general tax funds go into these roads as well. So bicyclists pay for these roads toom and they don't even use the freeways.
