Re: “Local students to participate in National School Walkout

Leave it to the Gazelle to negate the admirable, courageous action of these young people. Thank you, students and those who supported them, for showing us the true American method for speaking truth to false power!

Re: “Trump’s food box punishes the poor

Damn those poor people!! How dare they want some pleasure in their lives? Why do they think that the money (or "benefits") they receive for food is theirs to spend how they want? They should just be grateful to get anything, the lazy, shiftless good-for-nothings! Okay, okay--there but for the grace of god go I; I could become dependent on some assistance at some point because of a huge medical bill or the loss of a job, but I would never be like those guttersnipes that suck at the government teat. I would be different! I would be an upstanding citizen, not a layabout!
So this is what this country has come to: "I've got mine--screw you!" The so-called christians seem to forget about "your neighbor" and "the least of these my brethren." But you have no problem with pouring taxpayer dollars down the gaping maw of the wealthiest of the wealthy, the hugely profitable corporations. That kind of "charity" is fine. No, it's the single mother with a disabled child that's to blame for our woes; she's a handy target. Disgusting.

Re: “Reader: Maybe the kids aren't all right?

"... I choose to assault somebody with what then becomes a weapon a baseball bat, a knife, a chainsaw they all become assault weapons."

Each of the aforementioned objects has at least one purpose that is NOT assault with the intent to murder or maim. So do cars, canoe oars, sharp pencils, and all the other things that are launched as soon as someone starts to express her/his concern with the proliferation of and the ease of access to "assault weapons." I'm not sure this argument is a red herring or a thoroughly dead horse; Either way, it stinks. Guns, whatever speed or caliber, are designed to kill. That's the reason we send soldiers off to faraway lands with guns: the drive to decimate the enemy. We don't send them with baseball bats, knives, or chainsaws. The soldiers are equipped with objects that are specifically designed to kill. Gawd....

Re: “Reader: Tax animal products

Wow! So many dietitians and nutritionalists here! I've been vegetarian since the 70s, and I'm still alive! It's a murcal!! It's too bad we don't live in a country where we have freedom to eat what we want (if, of course, we can afford it), when we want, with whom we want. Oh.... Wait.... We do. No one forces me to eat anything an animal had to die to provide. No one forces you to eat salad. Ain't it great?

Re: “Reader: I apologize

You forgot a few.... Rude, hateful, spiteful, egomaniacal, narcissistic, arrogant, immature, self-absorbed, cowardly--shall I go on??

Re: “Reader: Keep the "dirt" buried

This from the National Archives: "The National Archives is releasing documents previously withheld in accordance with the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act. The vast majority of the Collection (88%) has been open in full and released to the public since the late 1990s. The records at issue are documents previously identified as assassination records, but withheld in full or withheld in part."
In other words, this is merely part of an ongoing release of information regarding the assassination of JFK. The release and the release dates were legislated. If you don't want to see them, then don't look at them.
Usually people who are made nervous about attention being given to sexual assault incidents are those people who have themselves committed sexual assault. Is that you, by any chance??

Re: “Letters: Sen. Merrifield slams Gazette editorial board

Michael Merrifield continues to be a voice of intelligence, reason, and sanity in the wasteland of mumbled garbage and the never-ending chant of "Me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me...." My most heartfelt gratitude to this dedicated public servant!!
