Re: “Cycling and the killing zone

I live on the east side of the Springs and often commute to work on a bicycle from my home in Stetson Hills down to the airport where I work. Except for one sad "bike lane" on Tutt, by the Sky Sox stadium, there are no bike lanes at all, anywhere, that I have seen, east of Powers, or even near Powers. Only a loony would even think of riding a bike on Powers, but fortunately for me, I've found back roads to commute on. Most of the area I ride don't even have sidewalks, never mind an honest to god bike lane. I'd love to see better infrastructure of any kind here, but good luck getting the tax averse citizens of this town to even think about funding it.

Re: “FOX 21 gets slammed for Cosmos broadcast

While I'm not normally one to attribute to malice, that which is more easily explained by idiocy or ineptitude, surely it's not that difficult to understand how some folks might think that Fox21's claims of "technical difficulties" stretches the imagination just a tad?
Especially in light of the (at least!) 2 other documented instances of Fox affiliates in similarly conservative markets across the country experiencing "technical difficulties" when Cosmos has addressed such scandalous topics as "climate change", "evolution", or the earth "not being flat"? I gather that Monday nights airing of Conservative, torture porn, love fest "24" did not experience similar issues. So while my tin foil hat is not wrapped so tight as for me to be convinced that some kind of Koch Brothers Spec Ops team invaded the studios of Fox21 on Sunday night, I will, in the future, be DVR'ing the National Geographic channels airing of Cosmos on Monday nights, or watching Cosmos on the internet, and best of all, it will be commercial free.

How about "Colorado Springs. Not just for bigots anymore!"?

Re: “City brand: Is that all?

My mistake on term-limits, was thinking of County. But the face remains, City council people think they are worth nearly 6 figures a year after this and the USOC debacle? Puh-lease.

Re: “City brand: Is that all?

What a joke. City can't hardly afford to water the parks, run a decent bus service, or fund schools, but still spends $110,000 on a "re-branding" campaign? Whats to re-brand? This city is still filled by soulless chain restaurants, bible thumpers, irony unaware small government military dependent GOP'ers, and "where's the birth certificate" flat earthers. A sucky new slogan ripped of from the Skysox changes nothing. I couldn't help but appreciate the irony in the local daily "newspaper" yesterday, when right below the coverage of this story was another story about city council people, who crookedly extended their terms last election season, complaining about how they aren't paid enough. Really? Based on what I've seen I think members of the city council ought to be paying US to put up with their Bullsh*t.

Re: “All seem happy with Don Armstrong's deal — for now

The wife and I tried going to Grace/St. Stevens 3 times when we first moved to town 6 years ago. EVERY sermon was about how no one was tithing enough. I realize that once or twice a year there is an obligation for the rector to give that sermon, but there was definitely something strange going on there. We kept getting phone calls and mail from them wanting a pledge for 3 months till we finally told them the church had put us off with their creepy, palpable focus on $$$$. It was quite satisfying to first hear the accusations, and now the proof, that our instincts were right. Its also quite the sad indictment of the character of this town that so many people continue to follow/support this crooked-as-a-dogs-hind-leg, snake oil salesman, and that other hypocritical, sefl loathing, trapped in the closet sleezball Ted Haggard. Though perhaps I should be greatfull for having my eyes opened to the danger that Religion as a whole represents. Rev. Armstrong should be doing time. What a gross injustice.

Re: “Health to pay

Am I supposed to be sympathetic? Even during the boom times my employer only paid 75% of my health care that gets worse every year, and only matched 401k contributions to 4 percent. My 401k BTW took an almost 9 percent hit last quarter and contains no “guarantee” of matching any percentage of my pre-retirement income. Guess what, times are tough and city employees are going to have to suck it up along with the rest of us. Think you’ve got it rough? Try private employment.
