Peter Mulvey, a singer-songwriter who’s earned comparisons to Bruce Cockburn and Bob Dylan, is hitting the road again. Well, technically, he’ll be hitting the tracks and bike lanes. The former Milwaukee busker is a model of persistence, having hopped on and off Amtrak trains with his trusty folding bike each year for the past decade.

“Add it up and it might be five or six thousand miles,” Mulvey said of the bicycling portion in one interview. “A lot of sunburn. A lot of sandhill cranes. A lot of rain and a lot of hills.” In tandem with like-minded folksinger John Statz, Mulvey is undertaking the California-to-Colorado jaunt to promote his 18th album,
There Is Another World. Released in February on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe label, the album is all about breakups, though not necessarily his own, and was written during a winter-long refuge in a friend’s empty house in rural Wisconsin.

All of which should make a few hundred miles on a bicycle feel like a stroll in the park.
