Staging a spectacle

With autumn just around the corner, the fifth annual Indy Music Awards Festival and the inaugural Freewheelin' Music Fest served as a fantastic close to the summer festival season.

Hosted at Ivywild School last weekend in conjunction with Bristol Brewing Company, the two-day outdoor event saw numerous Indy Music Award winners and national acts take to two stages, entertaining crowds who braved the end-of-summer heat and providing a wide, diverse swath of musical variety.

Friday night headliners Charles Bradley & The Extraordinaires and Saturday night's Phosphorescent delighted the crowd with their blistering classic soul and arena-ready indie rock, respectively, while local winners, such as The ReMINDers and The Mostly Don'ts, drew hugely enthusiastic responses of their own.

And of course there were plenty of surprises, such as local metal act Malakai's out-of-nowhere Rick Astley cover, and folk singer Joe Pug's tongue-in-cheek endorsement of Donald Trump.
