According to a poll conducted last week by the New York Times and CBS News, 67 percent of the country thinks Barack Obama announced his support for gay marriage because of politics, not principles. And civil unions, of course, have lately been on the lips of most Coloradans. So it's an interesting atmosphere into which our fearless leader flies to address graduating cadets at the United States Air Force Academy today. Think about that when you're eating the picnic lunch you brought and watching the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds fly over the Western Museum of Mining and Industry (225 North Gate Blvd., around 12:30 p.m., at the museum's $5 Picnic-n-Planes fundraiser. — Bryce Crawford
