Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Inaguration

When: Sun., April 24, 2 p.m. 2016

Poetry people probably already know the name Susan Peiffer. The current program director of Hear Here (Colorado Springs' slam poetry organization) has published volumes of poetry, won numerous Pikes Peak Arts Council awards, taught poetry at all levels and slammed her way across the nation with her signature hard-hitting verse. Given all this, it's no surprise that she has been chosen as the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate for 2016-2018, succeeding Janice Gould. If you've never experienced a Susan Peiffer poem, today's inauguration is your chance. In addition to readings by Peiffer and others, there will be a celebration with music and refreshments, and the release of the 2016 edition of Poetry While You Wait, a compilation of work by local poets. 2 p.m., Carnegie Reading Room, Penrose Library, 20 N. Cascade Ave., free,, 634-2204. — Alissa Smith
