Construction of a complex atop Pikes Peak begins in June after the Deputy Forest and Grassland Supervisor David Condit signed off on the environmental assessment for the project, as stated in a May 3 letter to project partners. The assessment found no significant impact from the projects, which include a new Summit House, a Colorado Springs Utilities communications facility and the Army's High-Altitude Research Laboratory.

GE Johnson Construction has been chosen to build the Summit House. Construction will span two years.
